UNDERGRADUATE (General Entry Requirements)
International students must have at least twelve (12) years of education and have undergone a national/international examination recognized by the Ministry of Education for the purpose of admission to diploma or degree programmes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 principals with A-Level examinations or:
- International Baccalaureate (IB) (with one sitting)

English Proficiency
- TOEFL iBT minimum score 35 or:
- IELTS minimum band 4.5 or:
- MUET minimum high band 2; or
- Pearson Test of English minimum score 43; or
- Cambridge English Qualifications & Tests minimum score 147
POSTGRADUATE (General Entry Requirements)
- Masters (By Research)
- Bachelor’s Degree with Honours (CGPA >2.75) from recognized institutions of higher learning or equivalent qualification as endorsed by the Senate.
- Applicants with other qualifications may also be considered for admission provided he/she has appropriate research experience and is able to demonstrate the capacity to undertake Postgraduate Studies.
- Masters (By Coursework)
- Bachelor’s Degree with Honours (CGPA >3.00) from recognized institutions of higher learning or equivalent qualification as endorsed by the Senate.
- Doctor of Philosophy (By Research)
- Master’s Degree from recognized institutions of higher learning or equivalent qualification as endorsed by the Senate.
- University Senate may permit a candidate with an outstanding First Class Bachelor’s Degree (CGPA >3.70) for direct entry to PhD after going through the evaluation process set by the University.
- Doctor of Philosophy (By Coursework)
- Hold Bachelor’s Degree from university recognized by UMK’s Senate with minimum CGPA of 3.00 or equivalent.
- Working experience would be an added advantage.
- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) of minimum score of 550 will be an added advantage.
English Proficiency
- TOEFL iBT minimum score 35 or:
- IELTS minimum band 5.0 or:
- MUET minimum high band 2
Exemptions on English Language Requirement
International students can be exempted from fulfilling the above English competency requirement given the following conditions PROVIDED supporting documents are furnished :
If the applicant originates from a country that uses English as the official language; AND/ OR
If the applicant has obtained the Bachelor's or Master's degree with English as the sole medium of instruction; a letter from the institution's Registrar as supporting document is required.
An international applicant who does not fulfil the English Language requirement will be considered for Conditional Offer; whereby the applicant will undertake International Preparatory English Course (I-PREP) for a maximum of six months. Applicant should then register and sit for either IELTS, TOEFL or MUET and achieve the score as per programme standard.
International students are welcome to sign up for UMK in-house Intensive English Course during their course of study at UMK. The Intensive English Course aims to help improve student’s English proficiency as well as to help students to reach the study requirement of MUET Band 2. The Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development is responsible to enhance the skills of the students in terms of language proficiency, soft skills and appearance among themselves.
